August 26, 2020
Toronto, ON, August 26, 2020 —Angela Simo Brown has been named lead executive on the Opportunity For All Youth (O4AY) team, a national market-led solution to youth unemployment supported by MaRS Discovery District.
Simo Brown is an accomplished leader recognized for executing innovative national multi-sector social impact programs. She has built an extensive career helping national companies drive sustainable and scalable societal benefit while ensuring social impact aligns with corporate strategy goals.
“I look forward to joining the amazing team at O4AY,” said Angela Simo Brown. “I am excited to tap into my experience and expertise in building multi-sector social impact programs and to work together to create an exceptional youth employment program that connects job-ready youth with meaningful work.”
At LoyaltyOne, Simo Brown created and implemented the Good Food Machine initiative, Canada’s first national food literacy program focused on improving healthy outcomes for marginalized children and youth.
Previously, she co-founded Air Miles for Social Change, a venture that incentivizes Canadians to make choices that are good for their health and the environment by using the power and influence of the Air Miles reward program.
“We are excited to leverage Angela’s talent and expertise to grow our coalition of committed employers, amplify youth voices, build employment sector capacity, and partner with government policymakers to implement positive structural change in Canada’s youth employment landscape,” said Alex Ryan, SVP of Partner Solutions at MaRS. “The global pandemic has brought to light the systemic inequities that racialized and marginalized youth face every day, and these inequities are baked into the labour market. O4AY has a unique position as convener and agent for systems change in the youth workforce development sector in Canada.”
Simo Brown was awarded the Women’s Executive Network Top 100 Canada’s Most Powerful Women Award in the category Trailblazers & Trendsetters in 2014. She is also a writer for the Huffington Post and a regular speaker at conferences and universities about social impact strategy, execution and measurement.
We extend our deepest appreciation to our existing coalition employers and community partners without whom the impactful strides that we have made to date would not have been possible. We look forward to continuing this important work together as we enter this new and exciting phase of O4AY.
Opportunity For All Youth (O4AY) aims to close the opportunity divide by identifying and removing barriers to employment for vulnerable and marginalized youth. O4AY is an employer-led coalition that connects job-ready youth with early employment opportunities through community employment service providers. Our goal is to change the youth employment system in Canada so that it works better for everyone, from young job seekers and the community services organizations who support them, to the businesses who hire and invest in them. O4AY is supported by MaRS and funded in part by the Government of Canada Skills Link program.
